Visit the Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park. This is a great place for hiking, picnicking, and rock climbing. Search for Vasquez' lost treasure or uncover old Indian rock paintings. The Placerita Canyon Nature Center provides hands on information regarding the plants and animals native to the Santa Clarita Valley as well as marked hiking trails and picnic areas. Discover the active, bubbling tar pits while hiking at Ed Davis Park. To learn more about the Santa Clarita Valley's water supply, visit the Castaic Lake Water Agency Conservatory and Garden. For additional outdoor recreation, enjoy crystal clear water, fully stocked lakes, and skies of heavenly blue at one of Santa Clarita's five nearby lakes.   • William S. Hart Park and Museum -- Mr. Hart was one of the earliest settlers to Santa Clarita
  • Mentryville -- or as the local's refer to it, "Santa Clarita's Ghost Town" -- is tucked just inside the Santa Monica Mountain range and established by miners and their families in the late 1800's.
  • San Francisquito Dam -- financed by Mr. Mulholland and destroyed by disaster. Contact Santa Clarita's Historical Society to discover more of the area's history.

Cultural Events
Santa Clarita offers a host of cultural and other events throughout the year. Here's a small sample:

  • During the spring, round up the folks and kin for The Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival -- a celebration of Western heritage held at historic Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio. Cowboys and cowgirls from all over the United States gather to enjoy music, poetry, and Western art, gear and food.
  • In the summer months, enjoy the Free Concert in the Parks series -- listen and watch Blues, Rock, Jazz, Country and other music bands perform live and outdoors in many of Santa Clarita's parks during the late afternoon and early evening hours.
  • Throughout the year, enjoy the seasonal Arts & Crafts Fairs at Old Orchard Park.
